Whether you’ve just had an oil tanker accident on the road or an incident at one of your facilities, NEDT is here to help with our emergency oil spill response. From the second you pick up the phone to the final piece of paperwork, we’re committed to providing superior service, limiting the scope of environmental damage, and helping you get back to operations as normal as soon as possible. Learn more about the timeline of a 24/7 emergency spill response so you know what to expect.

1. Immediate Emergency Oil Spill Response

Everything starts when we get the call. Once NEDT is contacted, our dispatcher notifies the technicians and drivers on standby, and they race out to the site. Generally, this looks like:

  • Fast Response Truck: First deployed to the scene is one of our fast response trucks, a utility vehicle that includes all the tools for initial containment, inspection, and cordoning.
  • Interfacing with Emergency Response: Typically, police and fire deploy to the scene of an oil spill. We’ll coordinate with them to assess the situation and start containing the spill.
  • Assessment for Further Vehicles: Depending on the scale and environment of the spill, additional NEDT vehicles will be deployed and contractors called in. This can include vacuum trucks, cranes and flatbeds, and even boats for water contamination response.

2. Paperwork: Federal, State, Local & Insurance

Once the initial dust has settled, there will be a lot of paperwork. The amount and the need to get it right makes NEDT almost as invaluable in this second step, with both our knowledge of local, state, and federal agencies and our working relationships with each. Regulatory notifications and submittals are required for almost all oil spills; we can handle them all. Also, our knowledge of spills extends to working with your insurance provider to ensure the maximum coverage and payments for the entire process.

3. Consultation and Site Restoration

Alongside paperwork is the project planning that goes into site restoration. We can get you the appropriate environmental consultants and engineers based on the situation, make a plan for your site remediation project, and clean up above and below-ground contamination. In Massachusetts, that may include working with a Licensed Site Professional if the spill occurred on your property. We’ll help you every step of the way, including submitting required closure documentation and reports to the appropriate agencies once decontamination is done.
